This course allows students to explore a topic in strategy of interest to them. Through group discussions and discussions with the instructor students select a topic to study in depth. The remainder of the course consists of small groupindividual meetings between students and the instructor on the chosen topic. Past topics include corporate restructuring strategic management of technology and manufacturing fast-cycle management strategic capital budgeting and global business strategy. Special-interest industries like telecommunications financial services health care personal computer and biotechnology industries have been studied.
The course encourages a working relationship with the instructor so course enrollment is limited to 15-20 students. Eligibility is based on the quality potential feasibility etc. of topics proposed. Students should have a reasonably clear idea of what topic they wish to pursue before the course begins. Although not a requirement a useful prerequisite for this course is 45-993 Competitive Strategy.
