Title: Business Acting 1
Concentration: General
Prerequisites: None
Description:

The purpose of this Business Acting course is the acquisition of greater expressive power for later use in business communications.  This is done through learning & then practicing communication tools borrowed from Live Theatre or Live Stage-To-Audience communication, and then extrapolating these tools for later use in business communications after the course.  The course deals with live performance in public space or with being effective “live in a room”, and not with film or video performance; it is not a course in how to specifically behave in a boardroom or other business situations.  This course helps students get "out of themselves" and to be more expressive and outgoing when communicating.  The course is designed to prepare students with an innovative arsenal of unexpected yet practical communication tools.

It can be viewed as “Cross Training for Business People”.

The course teaches Seven Stages in the Creative Process -- stages through which to motivate and inspire Listeners, & to put the Speaker’s best self forward.   The Seven Stages encourage a change in the Speaker’s self-perception, leading to behavioral change and practical use of the essential concept of “Action”.

Stage One of the Seven Stages is “Enthusiasm, Curiosity & Respect”.  You must bring this to the course yourself & make its presence evident through your participation in the course.  You must work from a desire to be seen, to be heard & to communicate more effectively.

This is not a course in professional lying; it is a course in better communicating what you believe. Also, this is not a course in pretending to be in the movies; (you will be expected to use your own creative energy, not rely on someone else’s); instead, it is a course in expressive power in live, interpersonal, face-to-face communication.  This course will not improve your PowerPoint; it will improve the person in front of your PowerPoint.

Some key take-aways of this course are:

b)
methods to manage tension or “stage fright”;
